Bonaire is green!
Did you know that 500 Years ago, Bonaire was a dry evergreen forest? We want to take Bonaire back in time to its natural state before goats, donkeys, and development were here. This will change the landscape from dry cactus landscape you currently see to a greener more sustainable island, which has so much to offer when given a push in the right direction!
Come see us at
Tras di Montaña
Thu/Fri 8AM-12PM

Powered by enthusiasm!
We are a group made up primarily of volunteers that believe in making a difference to our natural world. Have a look at some of our team.
A huge part of our team is made up of passionate volunteers working together to protect and restore our natural world.
We hope you will join us – even a single morning of volunteering helps contribute to a greener Bonaire and it’s a fun group of people who enjoy working together.
(or become one!)

Staying down to earth dirt
Tera Barra Native Garden has been a legal entity since 2009 (Stichting Botanische Tuinen Tera Barra Bonaire), but the development of Tera Barra as you see it today took off in 2020 when the first volunteers were involved during a national volunteering event (BonDoet).
We have been growing native vegetation species and reforesting the island ever since. Professional nature enthusiast Johan van Blerk was the visionary and his infectious love for nature has amassed a large group of people who are now part of the Tera Barra family. On Bonaire, Tera Barra has inspired a movement towards creating a greener and more sustainable Bonaire.
Time to get our hands dirty!
The primary goal?
‘Get people excited about Bonaire’s nature!’
Together with others
During the past 5 years, we’ve collaborated with other non-profits, government and commercial sectors of Bonaire who share a heart for a greener Bonaire.
By sharing our knowledge, enthusiasm and manpower, Tera Barra provides the native trees (grown in the greenhouses) and the brains for external projects, which include:
Reforestation of Klein Bonaire
Shade trees on the Malekon (Boulevard)
Trees for ‘Festival di Planta Palu’ (Tree planting day)
Lets bee friends
Community is key
A greener Bonaire requires people from all backgrounds and ages, as well as support from the commercial and public sector.
